Matthew Verich grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, but moved four times before the age of five, including a two-year stint as a preschooler in Baku, Azerbaijan. He’s majoring in Neuroscience (B.S.) and pursuing an Advanced Language Certificate in Spanish.
Matthew came to Yale on an NROTC scholarship (with a buzzcut!) but has since shifted his focus toward medical school. He’s always happy to talk about the winding road that brought him there. On campus, he’s conducted neuroimmunology research at the Yale School of Medicine and currently researches the pathology of Borderline Personality Disorder at the Fineberg Lab through the Connecticut Mental Health Center and Dwight Hall. If you have questions about clinical volunteering, getting involved in research, or navigating a shift in academic direction he’s always excited to chat!
Outside the classroom, Matthew is often found practicing trumpet or piano in Branford’s practice room. He’s a board member of the Yale Undergraduate Jazz Collective and the Artistic Director of Mariachi Lux et Veritas de Yale. He also performed with the Yale Symphony Orchestra for two years and is always down to talk about all things music.
Matthew is beyond excited to welcome the Class of 2029 and can’t wait to make Branford feel like home.
